Running water is something many people take as a given. If it stops running all of a sudden it can put you and the family in a panic.
However, do not panic if there is no water in house suddenly. There are several reasons why your water might suddenly stop flowing.
These 5 helpful tips can help you troubleshoot the issue.
1) Identify the source of the problem
You can try a different faucet at home. You can focus on the faucet if the water is flowing normally. You should check for bent or damaged components and ensure that the valve underneath the sink opens to permit water to flow through. You will have to replace the faucet with a replacement if it is damaged.
2) Check the water main
Your water supply may be at fault if the problem is apparent in every faucet in the home. Find the main water supply, usually located at ground level around your home’s perimeter. Make sure that it is not closed. It will stop water from entering your home’s plumbing systems if the valve is closed. Recheck the faucets after opening the valve all the way.
3) Compare cold vs. hot
Is your hot water running cold, but not flowing when it is heated up?
Your water heater may be failing. Sometimes water heaters may not work properly. Make sure the water heater is turned on, and check for any cracks or leaks. You might need to flush the entire system if the water heater does not provide water flow after it is turned on.
This task can be dangerous so make sure you follow all instructions.
4) Check for leaks
You should inspect your plumbing for any signs of damage or leaks. Check your main water supply, and inspect the pipes for any signs of condensation, dripping or damage. Water can be blocked if there is a significant leak in the pipe or a large dent.
5) Talk to your water company
Contact your local water company to see if they are at fault. The water company might need to temporarily shut off your water supply because of maintenance in the region. To determine if this is the case, contact the water company.
When to call the plumber?
Are you still not certain what is causing the problem? It’s time to contact a professional to diagnose the problem.
